Freshman - Junior Year Work

JUNIOR YEAR: DRAWINGS
Many pieces from my junior year investigate what it means to create by destroying.  How does layering mediums and then erasing them change the aesthetic tone of the piece?  I occasionally focused on war as my subject content, since war creates new landscapes via destruction.  It also speaks to the deeper desire of humanity and the individual to constantly make and remake themselves.  The process became very physical, with a concentration on varied mark making and expression of energies.  The result was rather haunting, with ghosts of past images seeping through and deepening the final ones.  The final pieces below were made with charcoal, pencil, and oil sticks on paper.
